Principal's Letter to Students & Parents

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Happy New Year.  I hope you all had an excellent holiday, although it probably feels like a distant memory now!

As we enter a new decade, it is astonishing for me to think it has been my pleasure and privilege to have been Principal at OSCA for seven years now.  It only feels like the blink of an eye!  Time has flown by, but we certainly have moved mountains in that time, and celebrated a myriad of improvements and successes along the way.

New Year is always a time to reflect back, and a new decade arguably even more so.  It is quite remarkable to look back and think how much we have achieved in that time.

New Year is also a time for fresh starts, but here at OSCA ‘excellence as standard’ is still the mantra.  We remain determined to leave no stone unturned to ensure we break through all previous records with our GCSE results in 2020 and beyond.

Nelson Mandela famously said ‘Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.’  That has been my personal mantra, my passion and my mission since day one of the 30 years I have been teaching, and for all 18 years of my headship.  I am immensely proud of how much of a difference my team have made over the last seven years to deliver the best possible standard of education for our students, and I know from your comments that you are too.

However, it is time for a fresh start of my own this year, and I have made the decision to retire from headship this summer, and move onto the next phase of my life and career.  It is not a decision I have taken lightly, and I already feel very emotional at the thought of leaving Team OSCA behind when the time comes, but I wanted to let you know in advance of the advert being published.

The process to appoint a new Principal will begin this week.  The academy is in the best position it has ever been, our reputation is now excellent, and we are full and over-subscribed in every year group.  I am confident a superb new candidate will be found to lead OSCA on the next stage of its journey.  I have every confidence too that we will continue on our upwards trajectory, given the very strong foundations now in place.

In the meantime, rest assured I shall continue with ‘business as usual’, expecting the same high standards from staff and students right up to the very last day in August 2020!

OAT will, of course, keep you informed when a successor has been appointed.  I look forward to seeing most of you at the upcoming parents’ evenings and other academy events.  Thank you in advance for your continued support in the coming months.  Our partnership over the years - parents, staff and students together, has been pivotal in the change in the academy’s fortunes, and will remain so on OSCA’s journey to outstanding!

Yours sincerely

 Marie McMahon
