OSCA Students Take Part in Local Litter Watch

Students from Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy (OSCA) joined the local Tipton Litter Watch on Wednesday 11 September to do their bit to help improve the environment around them.

The students went out to clear up litter on the local streets as part of their involvement in the #iwill Project, a national campaign aiming to make participation in social action the norm for young people under 20.

The school, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), has coordinated a ‘Community Matters’ campaign, which includes running projects to enhance its relationship with the local community through a focus on student voice. These include a tree planning project to encourage students to take ownership of their environment and a recycling campaign.

Local residents commented on how beneficial the initiative is for the community and students are already looking forward to doing more to make a difference locally.

Executive Principal Marie McMahon said:

“This is a fantastic initiative for our students to get involved in and it’s great to see just how pleased they were with the results.

“We have been thrilled with just how much students have dedicated themselves to building a sense of pride in our local community through their involvement in the #iwill Project and we look forward to seeing even more social action take place at OSCA.”
