Principal's Letter to Parents - May Half Term 2016

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I write to you at the end of another long, busy and very successful term, with a few highlights and a few reminders.

The main focus of this term, of course, has been the push towards ensuring exam success for years 11 and 13 in the summer exams.

We have had lots of conversations with students this week, and explained the importance of maintaining a positive outlook and using their revision time effectively. OSCA staff are providing a range of revision sessions during the May half term and we have also organised ‘exam cram’ sessions on the day of exams, for those last minute reminders, tips and final points of revision.

Details of examinations and revision sessions are available on our website if you are unsure.

Whilst exams are a key focus for staff and students at OSCA at this time of year; there are many other events and activities which highlight the hard work and commitment to excellence we promote every day. Please click on the link below for our half termly newsletter:

Newsletter - May 2016

As you can see, it’s been as busy as ever! A few highlights for me have included:

40 students, our biggest cohort ever, have recently taken part in a camping trip in preparation for their Duke of Edinburgh expedition. These students demonstrated determination, commitment and resilience whilst camping and hiking in Kinver, key qualities for success in the future.

We have also had several visits to Universities of late. Year 7 students took part in a Chemistry event held at the University of Birmingham while year 10 explored ‘imaginary numbers’ on a trip to Warwick University.  These kinds of learning experiences have a fantastic impact on the engagement of students and open up possibilities for their own future learning and careers.

We have also achieved a range of sporting accolades this past half term. Our Year 10 Football team won their semi-final game against Perryfields in the Sandwell Cup. We wish them every success in the final.

To give just one example of sporting personal achievement, Ethan Court in year 7 also achieved one gold medal and two silver medals in his athletic competition held at Alexander Stadium. All our sporting teams and individuals have demonstrated excellent team work and commitment and have represented themselves and OSCA impeccably.  I would encourage all students to partake in the wide range of after school and Friday afternoon activities we offer.

I am very proud of all the hard work and commitment demonstrated by the staff and students at OSCA and also immensely grateful for the support you provide, which is key to ensuring happy and successful students.
