Information for Year 11 – Autumn Term

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am writing to you at the end of a very successful academic year at OSCA – not only have our outgoing year 11 students achieved our best GCSE results ever, we have many successes to celebrate with our new year 11 cohort, including some excellent GCSE results already in Science.  This sets them in good stead to meet our target for them of 65% of students gaining 5 A*-Cs including English and Maths. However, this target is only going to be met through hard work in lessons, out of school and at home. This year will be both demanding and rewarding, as your child will be completing their Key Stage 4 courses, sitting their final GCSE examinations and making important decisions about their future.

In the coming year your child will need to be well-disciplined and organised, as it is vital that deadlines for all work are met. To this end, please would you ensure that your son or daughter has all the relevant equipment needed for GCSE studies and examinations, such as calculators, rulers, protractors etc.

To support you and your child through this very important stage of their academic careers we have organised a Year 11 Stepping up event on Tuesday 16th September, 5.30 – 6.30pm. We invite all students and parents/guardians to join us for the ‘Stepping up’ event. This event shall be used to share very important information about various key dates for year 11. In particular, information will be distributed on coursework requirements and exam entries in the areas of English, Maths and Science, and when extra study support sessions will be running in order to support students for the preparation of these. You will also have the opportunity to meet with Heads and Assistant Heads of House and our Academic Mentor Team. There will also be the opportunity to purchase GCSE study guides, which can be brought at a reduced rate directly from the academy.

We will also be holding our Target setting Day on Monday 6th October, again this will be an opportunity to meet with your child’s form tutor to review and set academic targets. I would also like to share with you the date for the  Year 11 Parents evening which be held on Tuesday 11th November, further details on times to follow. This will also be the Open Evening for our new OSCA Sixth provision. We do hope you will join us to explore the brand new facilities and exciting new opportunities we will be offering in year 12 from September 2015.

Yours Faithfully,

Myk Wagstaff
Senior Leader – Progress Director KS4 and KS5
