Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy

Double Award Win For OSCA

Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy, part of Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), is celebrating following the success of Year 11 student Michelle and Attendance & Logistics Manager, Jayne Cooper, at this year’s OAT Annual Awards.

Michelle won the ‘Sporting Champion’, sponsored by Zurich Municipal, and Jayne was crowned winner of the ‘Securing Futures’ Award, sponsored by School Broadband, after hundreds of nominations were submitted by OAT’s 36 academies across the country.

The Awards, now in their fourth year, recognise and celebrate the achievements of exceptional students and teachers from across the OAT network of academies, at an award ceremony in London.

Michelle is a true sportswoman and has learnt and developed varying skills and techniques throughout a range of sporting activities, to constantly better her performance. She has represented the academy at various high-level competitions, and is seen as a role model and inspiration for younger students, encouraging them to participate and aim higher, as House Captain. Michelle also extends her dedication to sport in her studies, and the quality of her work is outstanding.

Jayne, winner of the Securing Futures award, is an exceptional member of staff who has made an outstanding effort in addressing and raising student awareness about the importance of attendance. She has worked tirelessly at the academy to ensure that students understand the link between attendance, achievement, ambition and future aspiration.

Jayne is a real trailblazer and is highly regarded across the OAT network for her commitment. She has been able to share this best practice to develop a policy for OAT academies, creating and running training packages across the OAT network and other schools, to improve attendance in schools.

The OAT Awards were hosted by BBC TV presenter, Michelle Ackerley, and the evening would not have been possible without the support of the award partners, who included Net Zero Buildings, Zurich Municipal, Onecom, Schools Broadband, Capita, TES, PLMR and Ginger Energy, Barker Associates, Eco Consulting, and OAT’s founding body, Ormiston Trust.

Principal at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy, Marie McMahon, said:

“Michelle and Jayne are outstanding individuals who will no doubt go on to enjoy many more successes. They are a real credit to Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy and OAT, and we are delighted that their achievements have been recognised with these awards – congratulations both.”

Bob Yorke, Director, Schools Broadband said:

“Schools Broadband is delighted to be a part of the OAT Annual Awards. As a supplier we have been extremely impressed with both OAT as an organisation and also the level of ability, talent and endeavour shown by all the pupils across the Ormiston Academies Trust family.
