Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy

Welcome from the Principal

Welcome to the Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy website. I am delighted to have become Principal here in February 2013, and to have led the Academy at this exciting stage of its development. OSCA is certainly an Academy on the up, and the 2015/16 academic year has been outstanding!

At OSCA, our mission is simple. We believe that education is about opening doors for our students, and keeping them open. By nurturing young minds, by instilling respect for oneself and for others, and by building confidence, we can empower our students so that they are able to make informed choices. Once entrusted with the responsibility of improving the life chances our young people, we will ensure we deliver the highest possible standards of education they so richly deserve.

We have a wonderful team of staff here, all committed to ensuring continuous improvement in the quality of education the Academy provides. They also offer a vast array of enrichment activities, so that our students also have fun and enjoy learning on their journey towards success. We were delighted to be judged as a ‘good school’ by Ofsted last year, for the first time ever in the academy’s history- but we are not stopping there! We have won a myriad of other awards in the last year, including:

  •  Investors in People Silver Award for our outstanding work on staff training
  •  The Quality in Careers Standard, for the outstanding work we do with students on Information, Advice and Guidance on future careers
  •  The Music mark, for the outstanding work we do with our class bands and music services
  •  The Developing Democracy award (1 of only 19 schools in the whole country)
  •  Beacon School for Holocaust Education
  • The Basic Skills Quality Mark, for our excellent work on continuously improving standards in English and Mathematics provision as well as expertly preparing our students for life and work in modern Britain.

…to name but a few!

The class of 2016 achieved a record set of GCSE and 6th form results once again this year- OSCA’s best academic results ever! We are also the highest performing secondary school in the whole borough in terms of student attendance- a testament to our students’ commitment to ‘strive for excellence’. However, we are not complacent, and have raised the bar even higher in terms of expectations for current students. So, the pressure is on, and we will leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of excellence. Our new year 7 cohort joined us in September as our brightest year group ever, and OSCA is now full and over-subscribed for the third consecutive year, with a sizeable waiting list for places.

Our students are a fantastic group of young people, who tell us that they feel happy, safe and well cared for here. They really appreciate the opportunities on offer, and our Student Voice initiatives are second to none.

And finally, a major £9 million rebuilding programme was completed in 2015, leaving us with outstanding new facilities. This academic year, we have managed to secure a further £2.6 million investment in our site. By August 2016, our final block will be completely refurbished too, bringing it up to the excellent standard of the rest of our learning environment.  Together, we will ensure that our Academy continues to be a centre of excellence and innovation for our students, staff and the whole of the local community. Do come and join us on our journey to ‘outstanding’.
