Rocket Science

In September 2015, 2kg of rocket seeds (Eruca sativa) travelled on Soyuz 44S to the International Space Station. The seeds were stored by former British Army Air Corps officer and current European Space Agency astronaut Tim Peake before their return to Earth this spring. The seeds have been gathered for distribution by Rocket Science; an educational project launched by the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and the UK Space Agency.

OSCA is one of the chosen academies to grow these seeds alongside seeds that haven't been to space, they will record measurements of the seedlings' growth over seven weeks. The students won't know which seeds have been to space, until all results have been collected by the RHS Campaign for School Gardening and analysed by professional biostatisticians.
